Questions about Nolypsos

What is Nolypsos?

Nolypsos is a hand-made survival world of 4,096 × 4,096 blocks, made with WorldPainter, World Machine, Gaea, Axiom and WorldEdit, built for Minecraft Java 1.21.5. You download the world folder and play it like any other save, in singleplayer or on your own server.

How big is Nolypsos?

4,096 × 4,096 blocks, so about 17 million blocks of surface. Walking from one edge to the other takes roughly 16 minutes at normal walking speed. The terrain runs from Y -64 to Y 320.

Outside that area the world keeps generating normal vanilla Minecraft chunks, so you never hit a wall, you just leave the built part behind.

Which Minecraft version does Nolypsos need?

Nolypsos is built for Minecraft Java 1.21.5. Newer releases normally open it fine. Opening it in an older release is not supported: blocks and structures added after that version cannot load, and the world can be damaged by the attempt.

Bedrock players need a converted copy. See the Bedrock notes in the FAQ.

Which biomes are in Nolypsos?

19 in total. The land is mostly Snowy Plains (41.6%), Snowy Taiga (34.2%), Jagged Peaks (7.8%) and Plains (5.9%), counted as shares of the land rather than of the whole map.

Water covers 63.1% of the map, and land 36.7%.

By volume this world's caves are Normal Caves (95.1%), Ice Caves (4.3%) and Deep Dark (0.2%). The cave breakdown has the rest.

The full breakdown is further up this page, with every biome and its share.

Which structures are in Nolypsos?

14 of the 19 structure types the scan checks are confirmed present: surface (3/7), underground (6/6), ocean (3/4), portal structures (1/1) and settlements (1/1).

Not confirmed: Desert pyramids (not checked), Igloos (not checked), Jungle pyramids (not checked), Swamp huts (not checked) and Buried treasure (not checked). "Searched, not found" means the scan looked and came up empty; "not checked" means it has not been looked for yet.

The structure list above names every one of them.

Is Nolypsos ready to play in survival?

Yes. A scan of the world file confirms loot tables, structures, animals and ores, so the survival loop runs from the first night: chests hold the game's real loot tables, mobs spawn as they do anywhere else, and you can mine, farm and build without adding anything. It plays in vanilla Minecraft, with no mods, no datapacks and no creative mode.

The world contents report at the bottom of this page holds the item-by-item detail.

Where do I download Nolypsos?

From the download link on Google Drive, also on the button at the top of this page.

Also available: the PlanetMinecraft project page, which carries the release notes and the known issues for this particular build.

What is new in Nolypsos?

Every world is built on the one before it, and Nolypsos brought 5 logged changes into the line: new terrain, new assets and fixes to the generators that made it.

From its list:

  • fixed waterfalls creating uphill rivers
  • reduced size of lake biomes

The full list is on this page. These are the world's own additions, not patches released after it, so an older download is not missing them.

Can I look at Nolypsos before downloading it?

Yes. Open it in the 3D explorer and fly the real terrain in your browser, with the biomes, the caves and the marked structures. Nothing to install.

How do I install Nolypsos on Java Edition?

  1. Unpack the archive you downloaded from Google Drive.
  2. Open your saves folder. On Windows press Win + R and enter %appdata%\.minecraft\saves. On macOS it is ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/saves, on Linux ~/.minecraft/saves.
  3. Move the unpacked folder in. It must be the folder that contains level.dat, not a folder wrapping it.
  4. Restart Minecraft on 1.21.5 or newer and pick the world in singleplayer.

Full install guide

Can I play it on Bedrock, or on a server?

Bedrock needs a converted .mcworld copy, and converted worlds carry their own quirks around spawn, chests and villagers.

For a server, drop the world folder in as the server's world and start it.

What may I do with it?
