WorldPainter source files for Woxsaria

Woxsaria is published twice: the finished world you drop into your saves folder, and the project source files it was built from. Depending on the world that means the WorldPainter project, with the terrain, the biomes and the structures still on separate layers, or the black and white height and colour maps behind it, or both.

  • Switch the structure layers off and export a clean terrain-only version.
  • Re-export at a different Minecraft version instead of waiting for an updated build.
  • Reshape the terrain, move a biome or fix something yourself, on the original layers.
  • Use the terrain as the base for your own map, on your own server or project.

Opening them needs WorldPainter, which is free. See the FAQ for the terrain-only case in full.

Questions about Woxsaria

What is Woxsaria?

Woxsaria is a hand-made survival world of 4,096 × 4,096 blocks, made with WorldPainter, World Machine, Gaea, Axiom and WorldEdit, built for Minecraft Java 1.21.5. You download the world folder and play it like any other save, in singleplayer or on your own server.

How big is Woxsaria?

4,096 × 4,096 blocks, so about 17 million blocks of surface. Walking from one edge to the other takes roughly 16 minutes at normal walking speed. The terrain runs from Y -64 to Y 320.

Outside that area the world keeps generating normal vanilla Minecraft chunks, so you never hit a wall, you just leave the built part behind.

Which Minecraft version does Woxsaria need?

Woxsaria is built for Minecraft Java 1.21.5. Newer releases normally open it fine. Opening it in an older release is not supported: blocks and structures added after that version cannot load, and the world can be damaged by the attempt.

Bedrock players need a converted copy. See the Bedrock notes in the FAQ.

Which biomes are in Woxsaria?

37 in total. The land is mostly Plains (33.6%), Stony Shore (9.3%), Beach (7.3%) and Jungle (6.9%), counted as shares of the land rather than of the whole map.

Water covers 42.8% of the map, and land 56.9%.

By volume this world's caves are Normal Caves (95.1%), Lush Caves (2.4%) and Magma Caves (1.7%). The cave breakdown has the rest.

The full breakdown is further up this page, with every biome and its share.

Which structures are in Woxsaria?

15 of the 19 structure types the scan checks are confirmed present: surface (4/7), underground (5/6), ocean (4/4), portal structures (1/1) and settlements (1/1).

Not confirmed: Igloos (not checked), Trail ruins (not checked), Woodland mansions (not checked) and Ancient cities (missing). "Searched, not found" means the scan looked and came up empty; "not checked" means it has not been looked for yet.

The structure list above names every one of them.

Is Woxsaria ready to play in survival?

Yes. A scan of the world file confirms loot tables, structures, animals and ores, so the survival loop runs from the first night: chests hold the game's real loot tables, mobs spawn as they do anywhere else, and you can mine, farm and build without adding anything. It plays in vanilla Minecraft, with no mods, no datapacks and no creative mode.

The world contents report at the bottom of this page holds the item-by-item detail.

Where do I download Woxsaria?

From the download link on Patreon, also on the button at the top of this page.

Also available: the source files on Patreon and the PlanetMinecraft project page, which carries the release notes and the known issues for this particular build.

What is new in Woxsaria?

Every world is built on the one before it, and Woxsaria brought 10 logged changes into the line: new terrain, new assets and fixes to the generators that made it.

From its list:

  • added old birch forest
  • added mature birch forest
  • added young birch forest

The full list is on this page. These are the world's own additions, not patches released after it, so an older download is not missing them.

Can I look at Woxsaria before downloading it?

Yes. Open it in the 3D explorer and fly the real terrain in your browser, with the biomes, the caves and the marked structures. Nothing to install.

How do I install Woxsaria on Java Edition?

  1. Unpack the archive you downloaded from Patreon.
  2. Open your saves folder. On Windows press Win + R and enter %appdata%\.minecraft\saves. On macOS it is ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/saves, on Linux ~/.minecraft/saves.
  3. Move the unpacked folder in. It must be the folder that contains level.dat, not a folder wrapping it.
  4. Restart Minecraft on 1.21.5 or newer and pick the world in singleplayer.

Full install guide

Can I play it on Bedrock, or on a server?

Bedrock needs a converted .mcworld copy, and converted worlds carry their own quirks around spawn, chests and villagers.

For a server, drop the world folder in as the server's world and start it.
