Overview

4K, 1.21.5-26.3+, 🌳 Swamps & Base Dapple Forests & Sulfur caves

A 16km² custom Minecraft Survival Map, created by McMeddon. This world is on the more packed diverse side, with tons of biomes closeby, and mountains decorating the world corners together with a giant sleeping volcano in the world center. But most notably will be the new giant diverse swamp areas around the map core. Dev note: On this world i continued with some more biome and world optimizations, the integration of the new swamps, and layed the groundwork for dappled forest and sulfur caves, together with 150 new swamp objects (tree types, bog, stumps, deads, etc). Sadly i couldnt make bogs make work properly, as mc generation takes heavily over, even against my best measures. Sidenote: this world might not be a "total revolution" as it sweeps in and takes over where i left last after a prolonged break and offtime working on different projects, and served mostly for me a way to get familiar with my workflows again.

Questions about Bekalyxos

What is Bekalyxos?

Bekalyxos is a hand-made survival world of 4,096 × 4,096 blocks, made with WorldPainter, World Machine, Gaea, Axiom and WorldEdit, built for Minecraft Java 26.3. You download the world folder and play it like any other save, in singleplayer or on your own server.

How big is Bekalyxos?

4,096 × 4,096 blocks, so about 17 million blocks of surface. Walking from one edge to the other takes roughly 16 minutes at normal walking speed. The terrain runs from Y -64 to Y 320.

Outside that area the world keeps generating normal vanilla Minecraft chunks, so you never hit a wall, you just leave the built part behind.

Which Minecraft version does Bekalyxos need?

Bekalyxos is made for Minecraft Java 26.3 and opens in 1.21.5 and later. Between the two, anything added after the release you load it in is removed or replaced (new biomes load as plains), so 26.3 or newer shows the world as built. Releases older than 1.21.5 cannot open it.

Bedrock players need a converted copy. See the Bedrock notes in the FAQ.

Which biomes are in Bekalyxos?

39 in total. The land is mostly Plains (24.2%), Swamp (10.6%), Beach (7.6%) and Stony Peaks (5.5%), counted as shares of the land rather than of the whole map.

Water covers 32.1% of the map, and land 67.4%.

The full breakdown is further up this page, with every biome and its share.

Which structures are in Bekalyxos?

8 of the 20 structure types the scan checks are confirmed present: surface (1/8), underground (5/6), ocean (1/4), portal structures (1/1) and settlements (0/1).

Not confirmed: Abandoned camps (not checked), Desert pyramids (not checked), Igloos (not checked), Jungle pyramids (not checked), Pillager outposts (not checked) and Swamp huts (not checked). "Searched, not found" means the scan looked and came up empty; "not checked" means it has not been looked for yet.

The structure list above names every one of them.

Is Bekalyxos ready to play in survival?

Yes. A scan of the world file confirms loot tables, structures, animals and ores, so the survival loop runs from the first night: chests hold the game's real loot tables, mobs spawn as they do anywhere else, and you can mine, farm and build without adding anything. It plays in vanilla Minecraft, with no mods, no datapacks and no creative mode.

The world contents report at the bottom of this page holds the item-by-item detail.

Where do I download Bekalyxos?

From the download link on Google Drive, also on the button at the top of this page.

Also available: the PlanetMinecraft project page, which carries the release notes and the known issues for this particular build.

What is new in Bekalyxos?

Every world is built on the one before it, and Bekalyxos brought 11 logged changes into the line: new terrain, new assets and fixes to the generators that made it.

From its list:

  • added swamp biomes & 150+ swamp related plants/trees
  • added bog pads
  • added marsh pits

The full list is on this page. These are the world's own additions, not patches released after it, so an older download is not missing them.

Can I look at Bekalyxos before downloading it?

Yes. Open it in the 3D explorer and fly the real terrain in your browser, with the biomes, the caves and the marked structures. Nothing to install.

How do I install Bekalyxos on Java Edition?

  1. Unpack the archive you downloaded from Google Drive.
  2. Open your saves folder. On Windows press Win + R and enter %appdata%\.minecraft\saves. On macOS it is ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/saves, on Linux ~/.minecraft/saves.
  3. Move the unpacked folder in. It must be the folder that contains level.dat, not a folder wrapping it.
  4. Restart Minecraft on 1.21.5 or newer and pick the world in singleplayer.

Full install guide

Can I play it on Bedrock, or on a server?

Bedrock needs a converted .mcworld copy, and converted worlds carry their own quirks around spawn, chests and villagers.

For a server, drop the world folder in as the server's world and start it.
